This trip will take in two of Derbyshire’s most famous towns, Bakewell and Buxton. In Buxton, which was well established as a spa town by Tudor times, you will be able to tread in the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots and Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester.
At approximately 1045 we will have an included coffee stop at The Pavilion Gardens in Buxton. This is the Cultural Capital of the Peak District and, as a spa town, Buxton has been a popular holiday resort for centuries. Based in the heart of the Peak District the town is filled with magnificent architecture and a wealth of shops. Coupled with its world-famous spa water, Buxton has plenty to offer any visitor.
Lunch is served - A friendly welcome awaits you at the lovely Rutland Arms country hotel which stands at the heart of Bakewell town. Enjoy a two course lunch followed by tea and coffee.
After lunch we visit Bakewell - There’s more to Bakewell than just a pudding as you will see. It is very easy to wander around the compact town centre and there are plenty of interesting and historic buildings to admire, as well as a host of independent shops.
At 1530 your guide will take you on a delightful drive through The Peak District, an area of great natural diversity, it is split into the northern Dark Peak, where most of the moorland is found and the southern White Peak, where most of the population lives. Often overshadowed by the more famous Lake District, the Peaks have some of the most beautiful scenery in the country and there is plenty of historic and folk lore to keep you entertained on your scenic drive through this lovely landscape.
